Strange news is dropping from Nintendo's E3 2019 live stream presentation. TV fans may have heard that Jim Henson is working in a prequel series to his 1982 film The Dark Crystal. It's called The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance, and the Nintendo Direct live stream has revealed that this prequel show will be getting a tie-in strategy game.
In case none of this sounds familiar to readers, here's the scoop: Jim Henson, perhaps best known as the creative mind behind the Muppets, released The Dark Crystal in 1982. It's sort of a fantasy/adventure film, based of course around Henson's immediately recognizable brand puppetry. And the film's legacy continued for such a long time that Netflix and Henson were eventually able to collaborate (nearly four decades after the film first released) on a sequel series known as The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance.
The Dark Crystal Netflix series has yet to properly launch, but it will be releasing sometime in 2019. And, as we've found out through Nintendo's Direct presentation, a tie-in game will release around the same time. It's called The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance Tactics, and it's a strategy RPG based in the Dark Crystal world and featuring graphics similar to the style of puppetry found in the other releases. The game will be developed with help from the crew at BonusXP and will release for the Nintendo Switch, though no release date was given.
It's safe to say that The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance Tactics looks interesting, if not slightly offputting. We're hoping to learn more about the game around the time of the Netflix series' planned launch later this year.
