Players got a brand new look at Luigi’s Mansion 3 during the Nintendo E3 2019 press conference. The trailer showcased several new abilities that will be used to deal with ghosts and navigate the environment. It was also confirmed that Luigi's Mansion 3 would be getting a 2019 release date.
A whole lot of new information was revealed during the Luigi’s Mansion 3 trailer with a strong focus on the abilities. Luigi has a brand new ghost-fighting device called the Poltergust G-00. This back-mounted ghost vacuum will be players’ primary tool for fighting the spooky residents of the mansion.
Several abilities were shown during the trailer which included a variety of offensive, defensive, and utility moves.
The Slam ability is used to, as the name suggests, slam ghosts on the ground while they are being captured. It’s also useful when surrounded, as one ghost can be slammed into others. This will likely be the main way Luigi interacts with the ghosts as he’s cleaning up the place.
The Suction Shot is used to interact with the environment and deal with any objects, including those handled by ghosts. It fires out a plunger that can be sucked back up to basically carry items and throw them around. Much like the Suction Shot, the Burst is a utility move that sends out a shockwave that pushes ghosts back while also lifting Luigi into the air. Super helpful for giving Luigi some breathing room or jumping over objects.
Nintendo saved the best to last with Gooigi. Luigi is able to make an exact replica of himself made entirely of goo. What’s more, it appears as if Luigi has an out-of-body experience whereby he can control Gooigi while his real body stands there limp and lifeless. Gooigi can do things Luigi can’t, like slip through mental fences T-1000 style or walk over spikes. It was also revealed that Gooigi can be played by a friend for some co-op goodness.
The trailer also revealed a new multiplayer mode called ScareScraper. This includes a few new multiplayer modes for co-op or normal competitive play. Suck up ghosts before the time runs out or track down lost Toads.
While there was no specific release date for Luigi’s Mansion 3, it was at least made clear it would be releasing this year. We can only hope an Animal Crossing situation doesn’t occur – but at least we now have a firm release date for it!
