Watch Dogs Legion won't be always online

Ubisoft put the hype train into full speed ahead yesterday with the official first look at Watch Dogs Legion, a brand-new entry in the Watch Dogs series. While the series might have started off a little shaky with the first game back in 2014, Ubisoft earned some favor with fans after launching Watch Dogs 2 in 2016. Set to release in March of 2020, many fans were worried that the new Watch Dogs would require an always-online connection to play. Thankfully, that doesn’t appear to be the case.

You won't need an internet connection to dive into the seedy streets of London and raise a resistance force.

Resident Chatty user and Shacker, valcan_s took to Twitter yesterday to ask the hard questions. In his tweet, he asked if Watch Dogs Legion was an always online title or not, to which the official Watch Dogs account responded, “No, it’s not.” You can check out the original Chatty thread where valcan_s shared the good news to join the conversation.

This is pretty big news for those looking to dive into the newest Watch Dogs game next year, as it appears the title will follow in the footsteps of other singleplayer games in the Ubisoft catalogue. This was, of course, a big worry given the state of gaming in past years, with many singleplayer titles requiring an online connection to feed a bunch of useless social apps and features that nobody really wanted to deal with. It’s good to see Ubisoft playing nice and focusing on creating a singleplayer experience, and hopefully we’ll see more titles that don’t require an online connection in the future.
