The Final Fantasy series is full of fantastic games, but perhaps none are quite as divisive as Final Fantasy 8. Some players weren't fond of the striking departure from FF7's art style and combat system, but others found themselves absolutely absorbed by the tale of Squall and other members of Balamb Garden. Love it or hate it, Final Fantasy 8 is coming to modern platforms, as the Square Enix E3 2019 live stream presentation has revealed that Final Fantasy 8 Remastered is coming to PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and PC.
Look, we aren't saying that we're not excited about the upcoming Final Fantasy 7 Remake, but Final Fantasy 8 holds a very dear place in many gamers' hearts. Graphically, the game was leaps and bounds ahead of Final Fantasy 7, but while the Junction system was certainly intricate and rewarding, most players preferred the simplicity of the job- or equipment-based systems from previous games.
Still, it's hard to argue with the scope of Final Fantasy 8, telling the story of a sorceress who plans to take control over the universe by compressing all of time to a single instance. That simply wouldn't do, of course, so a variety unlikely heroes, bolstered by the power of their Guardian Forces, band together in order to save all of history — past, present, and future.
Final Fantasy 8 Remastered will release for PS4, Xbox One, Switch, and PC sometime later this year.
