Bethesda’s E3 2019 showcase started off pretty weak, opening up with Fallout 76 and some of the company’s smaller titles. To end things up, though, Bethesda brought out the Big F*cking Gun, revealing that Doom Eternal will release this fall.
Doom Eternal is the second installment in the Doom series since id Software revived it in 2016, bringing one of the most iconic FPS games to the modern generation of gamers. Along with news of the release date came several new trailers including one which focused on the story that players will experience in Doom Eternal, as well as two additional gameplay trailers.
Based on the new trailers, it looks like Doomguy will be making a trip to heaven along with his regularly scheduled stop in hell. The story and gameplay trailers showcased fiery, red hellscapes, as well as beautifully detailed heavenly landmasses that we can only assume we’ll get to explore in some way. Of course, violence and action are still at the core of the latest Doom entry, and Doom Eternal doesn’t appear to hold anything back.
Right from the start, the gameplayer trailers that id Software showed off throw players right into the action as Doomguy wields his handy shotgun and begins to pump rounds of high-powered buckshot right into the heads of demons all around him. It’s a brilliant display of raw violence and power—exactly what you’d expect from a new Doom game.
Alongside the release date, the studio also touched on how they plan to improve multiplayer to be more engaging and fun with Doom Enteral, as well as touched on their plans for next month’s QuakeCon in Dallas, Texas.
