Xbox’s E3 2019 press conference kicked things off big, showcasing the upcoming FPS-RPG from one of the many new acquisitions this year. The Outer Worlds, a sci-fi FPS-RPG from Obsidian Entertainment, will release on October 25, 2019, with full Xbox Game Pass support at launch.
We finally get got see a bit more of the upcoming sci-fi shooter that Obsidian has been working on, and boy does it give off massive Fallout New Vegas vibes. According to the trailer, the people of the galaxy have found themselves underneath the iron thumb of the mega-corporations who hold all power. In the voice-over commentary, we learn that for years, everybody has played by the rules, doing what the corporations say, until now.
Enter the player character. Though not much is known about the rest of the story in The Outer Worlds, it does appear that players will be able to make choices that will impact the overall reflection of the main character to those they meet. In the trailer the voice-over commentator implies that the player can choose whether they want to be a hero or a villain, even going so far as to mention the player becoming a psychopath if they so choose.
The Outer Worlds is set to release on Xbox One, PC, and is supposed to launch with support on the PlayStation 4. The game is being developed by Obsidian Entertainment, one of many studios that Microsoft picked up over the year. Private Division will publish the title.
