EA Play 2019 kicked off on Saturday, revealing quite a bit about some of EA’s upcoming projects. One of the biggest reveals, though, was our first look at Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order, the newest game coming out of Apex Legends and TitanFall 2 developer, Respawn Entertainment. While it was exciting to learn that Cal Kestis will be considered a canon character in the Star Wars universe, it meant that we would inevitably end up with some restrictions for how the story could play out. Unfortunately, one such restriction comes in the fact that Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order players won’t be able to choose between the Light and the Dark Side, and there won’t be a Dark Side section in the skill tree.
We talked a bit more about Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order with Brandon Kelch, the game’s technical director. While it had already been revealed during EA Play 2019 that Cal wouldn’t be able to go to the Dark Side, Kelch sealed the deal by further explaining that there won’t be any kind of Dark Side skills available to players. Cal has a story arc that he’s meant to follow, and players won’t be able to really deviate from that.
Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order is definitely an exciting title for Star Wars fans, and we’re all looking forward to it. Of course, it is disappointing to learn that we won’t have some of the same freedoms we had in previous Star Wars games like Knights of the Old Republic. Considering the more action-adventure orientation for Fallen Order it makes sense, as the game has never really been billed as a full-fledged RPG where things like player choices will affect the outcome of the story.
Even though we won’t be able to feed the Dark Side of our Jedi minds, we’re still stoked for the release of Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order when it hits this November.
