Starting the Crown of Sorrow raid in Destiny 2 isn’t like the previous raids. Players will be locked out of the raid until a certain requirement is met, which could cause some problems for those who haven’t been paying attention. If you want to play the Crown of Sorrow raid, you will need to make sure you complete the mission that’s given to you at the start of Season of Opulence.
To unlock the Crown of Sorrow, you must complete the entire questline for An Imperial Summons, which includes The Invitation questline. This is a long-form quest that has you defeating enemies on Nessus and participating in the Menagerie. Without completing this quest, you will be unable to play the Crown of Sorrow raid.
An Imperial Summons will be given to you the first time you load up Destiny 2 after Season of Opulence begins. The quest will direct you to speak with Benedict 99-40 in the Tower. Follow this questline to the very end, which will see you opening up a chest on the Imperial Barge on Nessus.
Once The Invitation is complete, you can find the Crown of Sorrow raid in the Leviathan node on Nessus. Simply select the Leviathan and find the Crown of Sorrow node at the bottom.
This is a first of its kind in Destiny, having a raid locked behind a single in-game quest. The only other raid that came somewhat close to this was the Last Wish, which required access to the Dreaming City.
Thankfully, completing An Imperial Summons won’t take you too long. At most, you will be spending a couple of hours. The main hurdle will be the Menagerie, as some sections of this have 740 Power enemies, which are not easy to fight. However, the activity does offer matchmaking, so if you don’t have a dedicated raiding team, you can at least get it done with randoms.
In the event you’re struggling to level up, take a look at our guide on how to level quickly in Season of Opulence. With the introduction of Benedict 99-40 as a vendor, there are now more ways than ever to acquire Powerful gear.
