Apple continued to help developers push augmented reality even further today by announcing new AR development features like RealityKit, Reality Composer, and ARKit 3.
The new RealityKit tool that Apple detailed today will allow developers to capture photorealistic renders for digital assets. They can then take these renders and animate them, forcing them to do things like move, wave, and act as an actual physical asset would. The RealityKit will work with Apple’s Swift programming coding software, which should also make development much easier for users.
On top of RealityKit, users can also shift these assets into Reality Composer, a new application available on Mac, iPhone, and iPad. Together, Reality Composer and RealityKit work together to allow developers to create realistic and smooth augmented reality setups, which they can then share with others. These two new applications will join ARKit 3, the latest version of Apple’s augmented reality software, as options available to AR developers.
ARKit was Apple’s first public push into augmented reality. The original software released to the public two years ago, and now Apple announced ARKit 3, the latest update for the development kit. Apple has big plans for augmented reality, and their constant push to provide developers with new ways to innovate and create clearly shows that. It will be very interesting to see how people create new experiences with augmented reality, which overlays digital assets on top of the real world.
You can see augmented reality in action in games like Pokemon Go, or even in the upcoming game, Minecraft Earth.
