Final Fantasy 14 is on the cusp of its third major expansion and it is loaded to the brim with fresh content for players both new and old. When Shadowbringers goes live players will gain access to things like new job classes, new races, new territories and a healthy dose of brand new dungeons and raids. Before its public launch, I got a chance to explore the world of Shadowbringers hands-on and check out one of the new dungeons players will get to experience when the expansion goes live.
In Shadowbringers players will have to collect four fae relics in order to progress to Lyhe Ghiah and destroy the Lightwarden. One of the relics you must collect, the Shell Crown is controlled by the water-bound Fuath. These creatures hold powers of illusion and before they’re willing to part with their precious crown, players will have to entertain them by fighting their way through Dohn Mheg.
Dohn Mheg is not your typical dark dungeon full of creepy monsters, in fact, the scenery is rather quite cheerful. Players will start off the dungeon in a field of vibrant, colorful flowers and vast velvet purple skies with tons of sparkly flora and fauna to be found. The enemies contained within, however, are not quite as saccharin and players will have to contend with giant moths and butterflies, Ent-like tree creatures, and all manner of beasts as they battle towards the Shell Crown.
Along with new dungeons like Dohn Mheg, Shadowbringers will also introduce the new Trust system to the world of Final Fantasy 14. This new system will allow players to take on treacherous dungeons like this one using a team of AI companions that have been optimized to fill in whatever roles the player’s job class isn’t designed for. Obviously, they’re not as intuitive as having a group of real people with you, but as you can see in the video, they still get the job done.
