If you were one of the many absolutely terrified by the look of Sonic in the upcoming Sonic the Hedgehog movie, then we’ve got good news. Today, Jeff Fowler, the Director of the movie reach out via Twitter with an image showing 2-14-20. The numbers indicate a new release date for the video game-based movie.
This tweet comes just a few weeks after Fowler confirmed via Twitter that the team would be redesigning Sonic to better fit his normal look. The new tweet also included a hashtag “#novfxartistswereharmedinthemakingofthismovie,” which we can only assume was probably to let people know that they won’t be working the VFX team to death trying to hit the original release date this coming November.
It’s good to see the studio taking time to reimagine Sonic after the torrential uproar from fans when the first trailer for the new Sonic the Hedgehog movie debuted several weeks ago. If you haven't seen the premiere trailer, then you’ll want to check it out to see the original design for yourself. While Fowler and the team behind the movie have spoken out about why they designed the character the way they did, fans of the blue hedgehog known for his speed were unhappy with it.
It isn’t everyday that we see studios taking the time to listen to their fanbase and change things up, especially when it’s going to cause delays like this has. Props to Fowler and his team for taking time to try to make Sonic’s silver screen appearance as good as it deserves to be. With Detective Pikachu being as successful as it has been, we at least have a little more hope that maybe the Sonic movie can follow in the Pokemon movie’s footsteps and not be a complete dumpster fire. Only time will tell, though.
