Steam has introduced its new Steam Chat mobile app so you can continue conducting all that important Steam business on the go.
The Steam Chat mobile app will let you do just about everything you can already do on the desktop version, only it's now streamlined for your iOS or Android device. This includes letting you check out your full friends list to see who's online and ready to play, and then selecting a friend to chat with.
The chat is just as full-featured as Discord, letting you send links, videos, tweets, GIFs, Giphy links, Steam emoticons, and just about anything you might want to share via the client. And if you need to add more friends while you're on the app, you can do that too. You can use invite links to get them added to your friends list that you can either text or email to the friend you're missing and get them together in no time.
Plus, the app features customizable notifications, which you can set per friend, group chat, and chat channel, so when you're out running around, you don't have to miss what your clan is getting up to and you can stay chatting just about everywhere you go. Speaking of group chats, you can organize them while in the app to make sure you can keep in touch with all your friends on Steam while you're away from your computer.
The app is free, of course, and it's a dedicated client that's separate from the Steam Mobile app. Valve has indicated that the original Steam Mobile app will soon see "significant upgrades" meant to focus on account security in the future, including better Steam Guard options to help keep your account secure. These will include QR codes, one-touch logins, and better app navigation.
You can check out the full announcement via the official Steam page here, but in the meantime you can download the app for iOS and Android now.
