The first Guacamelee is bound to go down as one of the classic games of the decade. An indie darling, the game is recognized as an excellent interpretation of the Metroidvania formula, one filled with reverence for the lucha libre culture and nonstop humor. There are still a handful of people who have yet to experience this game, but now's as good a time as any, because it's going for absolutely free for the next two days.
The Steam version of Guacamelee! Super Turbo Championship Edition fell to $0.00 earlier on Monday. This is the second time in a week that the first Guacamelee has been offered for no charge. Over the weekend, the folks at Humble Bundle offered free Steam keys for this same iteration of the Metroidvania original.
For those unfamiliar with the game and what it's about, the Guacamelee story follows an agave farmer named Juan Aguacate. When he dons a special Luchador mask, he becomes a superheroic wrestler, able to take down enemies with powerful punches and debilitating wrestling moves. Only Juan and his friends can stop Carlos Calaca and his wicked plans to merge the World of the Living with the World of the Dead. In addition to fluid combat, the game also comes with a slew of platforming challenges, many of which involve switching back and forth between the living and dead worlds. The Super Turbo Championship Edition improvements include additional content, as well as drop-in/drop-out co-op for up to four players. And because it's the Steam version of the game, players can check out special custom outfits created by Steam Workshop users.
The Steam version of Guacamelee will be available for free until Wednesday, May 22 at 10AM PT or until supplies run out. The latter may come sooner than you think, so pick this up now. Credit to Chatty's shirif for bringing this deal to our attention.
