The Google Pixel 4 and Pixel 4 XL are on the horizon, but it looks like we've just learned a considerable amount of additional information about the phone that could change everything.
YouTuber Jon Prosser of Front Page Tech has shared some enlightening information about the Pixel line that hints at a very big change for the phones in the future. It seems as though the Pixel phones could be in fact getting rid of all physical buttons from the phone to instead opt for a simple aluminum frame. Instead of the buttons like phones such as the iPhone X feature, the Pixel 4 and Pixel 4 XL could instead launch with capacitive touch buttons on the right side of the phone.
There wasn't any information shared about why this decision was made, but it may have something to do with Google's Active Edge frame, which lets you squeeze it to make things happen. This leak of course doesn't mean that the buttonless frame is happening for sure, but it could very well come true. Last year, Prosser offered up a swath of information about the Pixel 3 and Pixel 3 XL ahead of their release, and also confirmed the Pixel 3a and Pixel 3a XL before others were able to.
Whoever gave Prosser the information was able to offer him some additional details as well, like a camera cutout on the Pixel 4's display and the lack of a notch, which is an interesting design decision given the competition out there. The phone will also feature bezels and a thin lip, as well as an in-display fingerprint scanner that would end up replacing the ones that are already found on Pixel phones. Google hasn't seen fit to confirm what kind of scanner it might be just yet either, whether it will be an optical scanner, ultrasonic sensor, or otherwise. The consensus is that there should be a new dual-camera setup on the back of the phone, however. So we know that much at least.
Right now the phones are targeting an October release, but there aren't a lot of concrete details surrounding it just yet. There's a whole litany of different features the phone could utilize, but Google has remained surprisingly mum about it all. As we march closer to the phones' debut date, hopefully new information will surface further down the line. These new leaks certainly paint an interesting portrait of what's to come, however. We'll make sure you we bring you additional details as they roll out.
