Earlier today Minecraft announced Minecraft Earth, a brand-new AR experience coming to iOS and Android in closed beta this summer. The game acts very similar to titles like Pokemon Go, allowing players to move around the real world and find various objects and items that they can use to build up your own Minecraft creations in the real world.
Like other apps in this vein, Minecraft Earth will be available to play for free on both iOS and Android devices. The Closed beta is set to kick off sometime this summer, and we’ll be sure to provide more info on that as it becomes available. You can check out the reveal trailer above, though I’ll be honest, there isn’t a whole lot of information known about exactly how the gameplay will work.
It is definitely an interesting idea, though, syncing up Minecraft with the real world and blending the two together. You can check out the frequently asked questions page if you want to dive deep into more of the nuanced information about the upcoming AR game. The big things to note, though, are that the Minecraft Earth will be available on AR-capable devices, including iOS and Android. Players who sign up for the beta will be able to get a special Minecraft Earth skin, which will be delivered within 24 hours of registering.
If you’re a fan of Pokemon Go or any other AR game available on mobile right now, then Minecraft Earth is something worth keeping an eye on as development of the app continues. You can head over to the official beta signup page if you want to get in on the action. As I said above, we’ll be keeping an eye out for any additional information that might become available about Minecraft Earth in the coming months.
