Zombies and gaming go together like chocolate and peanut butter, especially when it comes to shooter releases. Far from the arcade experiences of old, modern shooters have the benefit of modern hardware, and that notably includes VR HMDs from manufacturers like Sony or Oculus. So, it's with a certain pleasing circuity that developer Survios, known for such VR games as Raw Data and Creed: Rise to Glory, are now working on a VR experience based around AMC's The Walking Dead.
Called The Walking Dead Onslaught, the newest Survios release allows players to drop into the shoes of an apocalypse survivor and start replacing rotten brains with blades and bullets. Survios was also kind enough to offer a new teaser trailer for the game alongside its announcement, and fans can watch it in the video embed featured below.
Speaking in an announcement post over on the Survios website, studio head Mike McTyre stated that the chance to work with AMC's The Walking Dead was something of a dream come true.
“Not only is The Walking Dead Onslaught a dream opportunity for the megafans in the studio, but we’ve had the unique challenge to further evolve VR with our ‘progressive dismemberment’ technology,” McTyre said. “This is a standalone game experience that is carried by one of the most beloved TV IPs in the world. AMC has been an incredible partner throughout the process, encouraging us to push VR combat and immersion to match those iconic, heart-pounding moments that can only be experienced within the world of The Walking Dead.”
Beyond a fall 2019 launch window, there's no formal release date for The Walking Dead Onslaught just yet. With that said, players who want to keep track of Survios' latest VR game are invited to wishlist the game on Steam. For the rest of your VR gaming news needs, keep it locked right here to Shacknews.
