Nintendo Switch fans have a lot to look forward to on May 15, when the latest collection of NES classics join the Nintendo Online platform. The update brings Donkey Kong Jr., Vs. Excitebike, and Clu Clu Land to the portable home console, bringing the available number of NES classics on the Switch up to 40 games total.
If you’ve been trying to find a reason to justify the subscription for Nintendo Online, then these titles might do the trick. While subscribers already have access to other NES classics like Super Mario Bros. 3, Donkey Kong, The Legend of Zelda, and others, these three titles make the entire deal even more enticing for fans of the oldschool Nintendo ways looking to enjoy them on their Nintendo Switch.
Based on the old arcade game, Donkey Kong Jr. is the direct sequel to Donkey Kong. Players will have to take on the role of Donkey Kong’s son, who must rescue his dad from Mario, who has imprisoned him in a cage. On the other end of things, VS. Excitebike includes more of the frantic, high stakes races that made the original Excitebike so popular with gamers. This time around the game also includes two-player splitscreen, allowing you to go back in time to settle those old scores with your friends.
Of course, Clu Clu Land is also an adventure worth checking out, as players must complete 20 stages to recover all the gold bars that the greedy Sea Urchins have stolen from the Clu Clu Land reserves. It’s a cute title that really breeds the aesthetics of the time.
There is a lot to like about Nintendo’s online subscription service, and classic NES games are only the tip of the iceberg. Users will also find themselves with access to cloud backup for compatible games, as well as access to Tetris 99, one of the most unique and enjoyable battle royale games ever created. Donkey Kong Jr., VS Excitebike, and Clu Clu Land will make their debut on the Nintendo Online service on May 15, so make sure you’re ready to dive into the latest NES classics when they arrive.
