We've all been waiting patiently (some of us a little less patiently than others) for more information about Hideo Kojima's upcoming game Death Stranding, and finally Kojima has given us a ray of hope.
In a chat with Norman Reedus at a talk at Tribeca Film Festival 2019 in New York, Kojima revealed some very important updates regarding the game. Thanks to notes from ResetEra user Cerium, who went to the talk, we have a bit more insight into what was said. Kojima noted that, most importantly, we could see more of Death Stranding in about a month β possibly. Nothing is set in stone just yet, but just this little ray of sunshine is enough to get fans talking and excited, especially when you consider how long it's been now since we saw the game's last trailer.
Kojima also stated that Death Stranding is an open-world action game that will bring something new to the genre. It will also feature heavy themes of "connecting," and even though the player is alone in the world, "connection" will be key. Kojima couldn't get into many details about what else the game might feature, fearing he'd get in trouble with Sony, but had this to say about connecting:
"βTo connect is the same as disconnecting in a way; is connecting correct? Is it better to disconnect?β"
The Metal Gear Solid creator also went on to talk about how difficult it can be to tell a story in open-world games when you have to balance player freedom with the plot, asking players to move in certain directions to bring the plot forward, but giving them the feeling that they're making the decision to do so.
He also gushed about working with Hollywood actors, saying he could never go back to a time before motion capture considering the expressiveness and depth of real Hollywood actors, saying he wanted to make games until he dies. What a coincidence! We want him to as well.
So it looks like we could potentially be seeing more of the cryptic game in about a month. Imagine if that's actually the case. If we hear anything, we'll be sure to keep you updated.
