VA-11 HALL-A: Cyberpunk Bartender Action from Ysbryd Games and Sukeban Games made quite the splash on Steam, selling over 200,000 copies after it made its killer debut.
The game is finally coming to PlayStation 4 and Nintendo Switch, just in case you missed it the first time around – and this time it'll be portable for your convenience.
VA-11 HALL-A is a twist on the traditional and click games where you take on the role of a bartender named Jill who works at a dank little dive bar in a neon-tinged cyberpunk future. There are over 24 different drinks to mix for clients, and you'll need to figure out what to serve each potential customer as they pour into your bar and tell you their story.
As you learn more about each bar patron, more of the story is revealed about Glitch City and the megacorporation that runs everything: Zaibatsu Corp. It's an intriguing game studded with plenty of characters that are easy to bond with over mixed drinks as you discuss various topics with each of them, whether it's genetic modifications or the trials and tribulations of being an android sex worker.
“We were inspired by old-school adventure games, and really wanted to create a narrative experience without the pressures of obtaining a particular ending,” said Christoper “Kiririn51” Ortiz, co-founder, Sukeban Games. “Every story you hear is important, and drinks served to even the supporting characters can have tangible impacts on progression through the game.”
The PlayStation 4 and Switch versions will come out as digital titles on May 2 for $14.99, and will support both English and Japanese languages at launch, with additional localization options coming at a later date. Limited Run Games will be making a physical edition for both systems at a later date as well as a collector's edition set for Switch, with more details coming in 2019. For now, we'll have to dream about what might be coming.
