The next entry in the Legend of Zelda series could be sooner than we think. It appears developer Monolith Soft is now recruiting for a new game, and the listings are live now.
A post on the Japanese developer's website is advertising a variety of different open positions, like designers, technical artists, and programmers, all being asked to come work on a new Zelda game. The page itself is adorned with Zelda iconography and designs, like a large Triforce. They're laying it on thick, because these must be important positions, after all.
Monolith Soft currently has three studios housed in Japan, with the largest based in Tokyo. Previously, the developer there helped work on The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild. The Kyoto studio has done its fair share of contributing to Nintendo games as well, such as Animal Crossing and Splatoon.
It looks like the same website with the job postings also has openings for another production aside from its Zelda project, but it's being worked on by the same team that handled Xenoblade Chronicles.
At this point, there's no information on what kind of Zelda game this will be, whether it's a new mainline series or something else entirely, but given that this is part of the same team that ended up helping bring The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild to the masses, it's easy to get excited about thinking there could be another lengthy game like that one in the works.
Breath of the Wild has been smashing records and enjoying a ridiculous amount of success since it debuted on the Nintendo Switch, so we're definitely hopeful that whatever this new entry is brings us at least a fraction of what we got out of that adventure. Where could the Zelda series go next from here? We'll have to wait and see.
