Sony’s PlayStation division opted to make a splash today with its State of Play event that was live streamed to the world. The event put the focus on a plethora of upcoming titles for the PS4 as well as PSVR. One of the biggest titles revealed during the event was via a short, terrifying teaser. Five Nights at Freddy’s VR will be releasing for the PSVR some time in the future.
The quick teaser for the game was revealed in the middle of a wave of new VR game announcements and release date promotions. The teaser for Five Nights at Freddy’s VR was short and lacked details, but got its creepy vibe over despite the limited time to shine. At the end of the teaser, the words “HELP WANTED” were illuminated under the title reveal.
No official release date or time frame for the game was made available.
The Five Nights at Freddy's series first rocketed to mainstream popularity following the release of the original horro adventure game on Steam back in 2014. The game was almost an instant success thanks to its popularity with Youtube and Twitch streamers. The game developed a strong following with a younger audience and the developers were able to crank out a number of follow up games in a short time period. As the franchise grew in popularity, a series of books and toys followed the release of the games.
The hype for thes series peaked in late 2015 and the rest of the entertainment media world took notice. That year, Warner Bros. Pictures announced plans to develop a feature film based on the franchise. Although the original plans eventually fell through, series creator Scott Cawthon announced that the movie project had shifted over to horror specialtist Blumhouse Productions in 2017.
