Launched in December 2018 and not quite five months old, the Epic Games Store has already amassed an impressive audience of more than 85,000,000 PC players. This is in addition to the 55,000 content creators that have flocked to the platform at least in part due to the Epic Games Store 88 percent revenue share with those that choose to publish there.
During their State of the Unreal GDC 2019 keynote, Epic Games had a lot more to boast about concerning the Epic Games Store, including the fact that they would be continuing their partnership with Ubisoft after the launch of Tom Clancy’s The Division 2 on the platform. This will extend to Ubisoft’s back catalog of titles through the Epic Games Store’s free games program.
Epic Games also announced that their store would be home to Quantic Dream titles such as Heavy Rain, Beyond: Two Souls, and Detroit: Become Human, all of which would be hitting PC for the first time after being PlayStation exclusives up until this point.
It’s news like this that will undoubtedly help the Epic Games Store continue its rise and push to challenge Steam for a bigger piece of the PC audience. They even took the opportunity to boast about how Metro: Exodus sold more than 2.5 times as many copies in its release on the Epic Games Store as Metro: Last Light did on Steam over the same period.
For a long time, it appeared that Steam had a strangle hold on the PC audience when it game to releasing video games, and perhaps that’s still the case. Still, what the Epic Games Store has managed to do with their store in under five months is nothing shy of impressive, and there will almost certainly be a continued rush of big studios and titles flocking to this new platform in the days, weeks, and months to come.
