Moore's Law Holds
According to CNet, Intel and IBM see Moore's Law (speed will double every 18 to 24 months) holding for another decade. Since the connections in microchips were getting so damn small, people were wondering if silicon oxides would continue to work. But they can, Intel says it can even make transistors with elements as narrow as three atoms. If they were to use that in a few years they could get up to 400 million transistors, and a speed of about 10Ghz. In 2005, we should have 0.07-micron processors. Looks like we will be getting faster processors for a long time to come. Sharky Extreme has a writeup of the Intel presentation too.
