The dominant mediums at SXSW are always film, tech, and music, but the event has been closing out the last few years with the SXSW Gaming Expo. Last year, SEGA hosted a panel and dropped a couple Sonic related bombshells. This year, the crew opened up the panel by sharing a new Team Sonic Racing trailer that introduces the world to the game's customization options.
SEGA's SXSW Gaming Expo 2019 Discovery Stage panel was hosted by SEGA/SEGA of America staff members Jasmin Hernandez, Aaron Webber, Jun Senoue, and Sonic Team head Takashi Iizuka. The team started off by giving the audience an update on recent Sonic events, but then dropped the first video of the panel. The video showed off the customization options coming to Team Sonic Racing, allowing players to change kart parts (influencing the kart's actual performance in a race), paint color schemes, decals, and even the horn. The paint kits for karts can all be changed and you can even pull the kits and colors from other karts to apply. The color of the decals featured in the customization tool can also be changed.
