PlayerUnknown to head up new PUBG Special Projects division

PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds creator Brendan Greene, also known as PlayerUnknown himself, has announced that he is leaving his director of development position on PUBG today via Twitter.

Greene will be joining a new division of PUBG Corp. going forward, known as PUBG Special Projects. The PUBG creator will be moving from Seoul to Amsterdam while taking on his new role.

“It’s been an incredible journey and our game has reached heights I never thought possible," said Greene in his letter to fans on the changes to his role in the PUBG universe. "Seeing the game grow into what it is today has been a dream come true and I can’t thank our fans and the incredible team at PUBG Corporation enough."

Greene has worked over five years on the game, and will be heading up the division that will focus on research and game development. His official statement on the matter was a bit vague in terms of what to expect for the game going forward, in terms of what it means for Greene working on PUBG proper or if he's going to be part of a team working on some other sort of projects for the franchise.

At the end of his statement, Greene pushed readers who felt they have "something to offer" the team to the PUBG Corp. careers page, which is currently hiring. As far as what PlayerUnknown himself is going to work on going forward, it won't be the daily game operations anymore, but he'll still remain as the consulting creative director for the game. Development will be led by Taeseok Jang and the rest of the PUBG team.

Greene will also be "making a new life" for himself in Amsterdam, he noted.

"I've spent the past two years on the road meeting so many of you at conventions and other industry events, which has been a fantastic experience, but I missed having a place to call home and a room to play games," Greene shared.

We'll have to wait and see what this means for PUBG's future, but it's certainly an interesting move for its creator.
