The latest patch notes for Fortnite v8.10 are here and they bring a whole lot of fun for players. Epic Games has introduced The Baller, a hamster ball-like single-person vehicle with a grapple attached to the front. But most importantly, this update to Fortnite finally introduces crossplay between Xbox One and PlayStation 4.
A new type of weapon-delivery service is also coming to the game. Simply called a vending machine, these devices will provide one item for free – no more material costs. To sweeten the deal, common and uncommon vending machines have been removed, so expect to start finding a lot of better gear. The caveat here is that the vending machines are single-use items, so once you get your item, it’ll disappear.
One of the biggest pieces of news in this update is the Battle Royale crossplay options. The Xbox One and PS4 pools have finally combined. Players who opt-in for this experience will be able to get in some sweet, sweet Fortnite Battle Royale action with their friends on the other console. For anyone that chooses not to opt-in (a mind-boggling decision) gameplay will be restricted to Creative Mode and Playgrounds.
This is a massive step forward for gamers everywhere. Fortnite’s social impact is undeniable, so this could very well be the first step toward all consoles being able to play together. It’s taken a long time, but it seems like Sony is finally relenting with their obstinate stance on crossplay.
Players on Mobile and Nintendo Switch have also had their pools merged. The decision behind this is to create a better experience for those users. Unfortunately, the patch notes do not delve into the specifics of how this will work or whether Switch users will still be able to play with Xbox One players. However, it would be surprising for them to completely remove this functionality.
The Getaway Limited Time Mode is also making its return. This LTM has players racing to snatch a jewel and escape before another team kills them. As usual, there are also a whole lot of other improvements, bug fixes, and more. You can read the full patch notes over on the Epic Games site.
