Red Dead Online has received another round of significant updates today, including balance tweaking, a series of bug fixes, and additional features for players to explore.
Two new additions launched today in-game for Red Dead Online fans, including a powerful new weapon seen in the original Red Dead Redemption, as well as a new addition to the current roster of Free Roam Events. There's also a package of items up for grabs for just jumping into the game this week.
The weapon on offer is the long-range rifle known as the Evans Repeater. John Marston had it on him during Red Dead Redemption, and it'll be a formidable arm no matter what you're up against. With a big bullet capacity and deadliness at medium and long distances paired with a high rate of fire, it's built to take down your prey. You can customize it with special Stocks, Sights, and Wraps to make it truly feel like part of your character's expanded arsenal, and it's available now via the Rawson, Wheeler & Co. catalogue via any in-game Gunsmith.
You'll need something like the Evans Repeater if you want to participate in the new Fool's Gold Free Roam event. It's the newest addition to the roster, which will continue to rotate out periodically through the rest of the Red Dead Online beta period. If you opt into an event, you'll be transported to the location and jin it before it begins. Fool's Gold in particular finds you battling other players to wear the Golden Armor, which lets you earn points while taking out enemies. You'll also score points by eliminating rival players wearing said armor.
Fool's Gold can be enjoyed as individual free-for-all competitions or skirmishes held between Posses. Other Free Roam Events held regularly in-game include Cold Dead Hands, Competitive Challenges, Dispatch Rider, King of the Castle, and Master Archer. You can try them all out to add a little variety to your days as an outlaw.
Rockstar is rewarding players who have stuck around in the beta as well with the aforementioned special care package. You can redeem it at your camp lockbox or any post office, and it includes various items that you can use to help aid in your survival efforts:
If you complete five Daily Challenges between now and March 11, you'll be rewarded with a Special Spinner fishing lure that can catch fish of all sizes. It cannot be lost if the line becomes cut at any point. Next week, gameplay updates on the Fishing Challenge, new Showdown Modes, and Target Races are coming up in addition to new weekly bonuses. There's still a lot to do out there in Red Dead Online, it seems, and if you aren't done with Red Dead Redemption 2 just yet, there's always that as well.
