Last week Nintendo surprised fans around the world with the first look at the latest entries in the Pokémon series, Pokémon Sword and Shield. Slated for a release sometime this year, the new titles will be available for the Nintendo Switch, bringing the world of Pokémon to Nintendo’s hit hybrid home/portable gaming system. While many fans are excited, others are curious, will Pokémon Sword and Shield come to the Nintendo 3DS?
If you’re looking forward to playing Pokémon Sword and Shield on the Nintendo 3DS, then we’ve got some bad news for you. Pokémon Sword and Shield is currently only slated to release on the Nintendo Switch. This means that the handheld platform that has previously been the home for Pokémon games is going to find itself left out of the race, at least this time around.
Nintendo hasn’t made any official statements on whether this means future Pokémon games will only be available on the Switch. But, considering the additional hardware power available on their hybrid console, it would make sense for them to focus more attention on it and try to expand the Switch’s library even more with their first party titles.
While the game won’t be available on the Nintendo 3DS, it is still exciting to see a more traditional Pokémon game make it’s way to the Switch. If you haven’t already, make sure you check out the starter Pokémon in Pokémon Sword and Shield and be sure to check back in at our Pokémon Sword and Shield guide hub for more news and info about the upcoming Pokémon title. We can’t wait to see where Nintendo takes the latest chapter in the series, and we’re sure it will be just as much of a blast as previous entries have been.
