Twitch is teaming up with the 1000 Teams Fund to help raise money for women to become more involved in broadcasting and other STEM initiatives.
This will mark the second year in a row the platform has partnered with the organization 1000 Dreams Fund (1DF) to bring support to women. Last year, the community raised $45,000 which helped support 60 women with Twitch's BroadcastHER grant. It's available to women who are currently Twitch Affiliates or Partners.
The BroadcastHER grant will give financial assistance to help with expenses for travel to game conventions, conferences, upgrades to hardware, and instructional programs meant to help bolster entrants' "creative or artistic pursuits."
Twitch Rivals will also invite talented female CS:GO players to compete to raise money for 1DF, with Twitch matching every dollar up to $25,000 raised during th event. Competitors and other information about the event will be announced at a later date.
You can join in on the fundraising efforts right now via Tiltify, if you're so inclined. Otherwise, you can check out Twitch Weekly on March 8 for a special edition of the show with a one hour panel hosted by Anna Prosser and Katrina Jones, Twitch's Head of Diversity & Inclusion, as well as other women from throughout the tech and gaming industry.
The event takes place each Women's History Month and has a goal of inspiring, empowering, and uplifting women in the broadcasting game. The idea is to team up with passionate Twitch broadcasters who work to help and lift up upcoming young women looking to make a name for themselves in the industry. There are several ways to get involved if you want to help a young woman get into the streaming business, starting with making donations via this program. It certainly seems like a good cause!
