E3 2019 is a few months away, but developers and publishers are already ironing out their plans to attend one of the brightest beacons for the video game industry. The gaming community constantly speculates on what projects, known and unknown, will be making an appearance at the expo as well and CD Projekt Red has gone ahead and cleared up one mystery: Cyperpunk 2077 will be at E3 2019.
Cyberpunk 2077 is the open-world first-person RPG adapted from the tabletop RPG Cyberpunk 2020. Mike Pondsmith, the author and creator of the Cyberpunk series, is working with CD Projekt Red on the video game. The game made an appearance at E3 2018, but the hands-off demo was shown behind closed doors. A couple of months after the expo, the team revealed a new gameplay demo, introducing the rest of the world to an experience that looks pretty ambitious.
CD Projekt Red caught fire in the gaming world with the Witcher series and is stepping into new territory with Cyberpunk 2077's first-person perspective and the sci-fi setting. One thing that stood out in The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt was the density of the open-world spaces and how even the smallest side quests were interesting journeys. The gameplay shown in the first public Cyberpunk 2077 demo seems to reflect a similar plan, potentially to a heightened degree. There's a large map in the game, but there's a degree of verticality that adds even more to explore as well.
There's no official release window for Cyberpunk 2077, but we all may get a better idea after the E3 2019 appearance. It's not known if the game's presence will be in a hands-on fashion on the show floor or will be from a hands-off showcase at one of the many booths. Sony will not be taking up its usual space on the E3 exhibition floor with any type of PlayStation experience, so there's a good chunk of floor space to snatch up.
