The remake of Resident Evil 2 has been bitten fans in the neck with teeth made of nostalgia and has a pretty firm grip right now. There are, sadly, no plans on bringing that experience to the Nintendo Switch, but all is not lost. Owners of the hit hybrid console now know exactly when they'll be getting their hands on Switch versions of Resident Evil 0, Resident Evil HD Remaster, and Resident Evil 4: May 21, 2019.
The pre-orders for all three of these zombie-riddled experiences goes live February 28. North American gamers can get physical copies of the Resident Evil Origins Collection at major retailers. That collection includes both Resident Evil 0 and Resident Evil HD Remaster. Resident Evil 4 has to be purchased digitally on its own. European players can only get the games digitally and all individually. The image below is taken from the official Resident Evil Twitter account, which revealed today's news.
Two of these titles will take players back to the beginning of the outbreak that serves as the launching point for the Resident Evil world. Resident Evil HD Remaster is a polished revival of the series' first game where a special forces team is sent to investigate some strange murders on the outskirts of Raccoon City in 1998. The crew is attacked and has to take refuge in a nearby mansion and the mysteries events unfold from there. Resident Evil 0 is also set in 1998, focusing on officer Rebecca Chambers and convicted killer Billy Coen as they attempt to figure out the events that caused a train owned by Umbrella to come under attack and crash. Chambers was one of the agents that was supposed to investigate the murders outside of Racoon City, so this entry offers a newer perspective on the events transpiring around the city.
For reference purposes, Resident Evil 2 also takes place in 1998. Resident Evil 4 leaps forward in the timeline six years and focuses on Leon Kennedy, one of the leads in RE2, and his mission to rescue the US President's daughter. This entry is a pivotal one, changing up the Resident Evil gameplay formula and pitting players against a different type of creature called Las Plagas.
Resident Evil 0, Resident Evil HD Remaster, and Resident Evil 4 are all coming to the Nintendo Switch on May 21, 2019. Stay tuned to Shacknews for additional gaming and tech updates.
