Detective Pikachu trailer teased in silly Ryan Reynolds tweet

The live-action Detective Pikachu movie is just around the corner, and Ryan Reynolds is tearing a new trailer tomorrow.

Reynolds' latest tweet, which includes the quote "Acting is behaving truthfully under imaginary circumstances" is a node to the silly clip promoting Detective Pikachu it was posted with. "Point is," the tweet continued, "there's a new Detective Pikachu trailer tomorrow."

Reynolds posted a 90-second "outside the Actor's Studio" clip lampooning his preparation for the role of Pikachu. He's found lying on a couch reading through a Pokemon book and talking to the camera about the role as if it were one he'd eventually win an Oscar for. He talks about how immersed he was while getting ready, and fully "disappearing" into his performance as Pikachu.

"I was on the way to pick up my daughters from school when I heard I got the role. I didn't show up at school, because Detective Pikachu, he doesn't know who those two little girls are."

"They're our daughters. He just left them," Reynolds' wife Blake Lively deadpanned to the camera, clearly unimpressed.

"I read about him, I lived as his height," Reynolds said of his efforts to "become" PIkachu.

"I mean, he didn't even change his voice. It just sounds like him," commented Lively. It's true. He didn't change it at all, as you can hear in the official trailer.

The movie is the first-ever live action Pokemon movie, and it will follow 21-year-old Tim Goodman, who's trying to figure out the whereabouts of his father Harry Goodman. Based on the Nintendo 3DS game of the same name, it stars Ryan Reynolds as the titular electric mouse detective and a swath of CG Pokemon to round things out. We've seen monsters like Charizard, Mr. Mime, Psyduck, Jigglypuff, and more, for starters.

Detective Pikachu is set to debut in theaters on May 10, 2019.
