Magic Leap Game Director talks AR gaming in interview

Published , by Charles Singletary Jr

Similar to how VR is transporting us to fantastic worlds, augmented reality is using technology to enhance the real world around us. Magic Leap is one of the premier companies working with AR, doing so with the Magic Leap One HMD. There's a world of potential in the augmented reality industry, but the potential for entertainment is one aspect that receives a lot of attention.

Magic Leap Game Director Greg Broadmore has the enviable task of bringing interactive entertainment to life with the company and we got a chance to speak to him about AR hardware and games. In the interview below, you can learn about Broadmore's path from film to AR gaming, the development of one of the devices first AR games, and more.

The Magic Leap One works by using computer vision and spatial audio to insert digital assets into our real-world surroundings. Overlaying them is simple enough, but a true AR experience has those digital creatures, people, and more maneuver through and interacts with our spaces in a realistic way. This first HMD from Magic Leap has its processing power in the portable Lightpack, allowing users to take the AR experience on the move. It is built for interior AR use at this time, but could expand into outdoor experiences in the future. The Magic Leap One AR HMD is available now for $2,295.
