Wrapping out the three-part competitive Fornite blog series, Epic Games has revealed the first details for the Fortnite World Cup 2019 and additional information on the $100 million prize pool for 2019. The event will begin with ten weekly Online Open qualifiers from April 13 to June 16 and, each week, $1 million will be on the line for eligible participants.
After that period, the top 100 Solo Fortnite players and top 50 Duo teams will compete in the Fortnite World Cup Finals in New York City. The battles will take place from July 26 to July 28 and there's $3 million up for grabs. In the finals, every single participant is guaranteed at least $50,000 and the Solo champ will walk away with $3,000,000. Even if you're not participating in the competitive Fortnite scene, there will be additional Fornite events taking place during the Fortnite World Cup Finals including custom challenges across various modes.
If you're interested in participating in the 2019 Fortnite World Cup, Epic Games has laid out the criteria for eligibility
To be eligible to participate in any Fortnite competition, a player must be at least 13 years old (or such other age, if greater, as may be required in such player’s country of residence). Players between the ages of 13 and 17 (or such other age, if greater, as may be required in such player’s country of residence) must have permission from a parent or legal guardian. Players must be in good standing with respect to any Epic accounts registered by said player, with no undisclosed violations. Players must also be free of or served fully any penalties from previously breaking any official Epic rules. The event is void wherever restricted or prohibited by law. Additional eligibility terms and conditions apply.
Epic Games isn't pulling any punches with the heavy investment in Fortnite's competitive scene. $1,000,000 weekly cash tournaments will continue through the end of 2019, featuring a variety of modes and formats to mix things up. The company will also be teaming up with third-party partners and giving them the tools and prizing to host Fortnite events around the world. In total, Epic Games will be awarding a full $100 million in 2019. Stay tuned to Shacknews for additional gaming and tech updates.
