One of the big things that Ubisoft wanted to work on with The Division 2 was the factions and AI that players come across in the game. One of the ways that they did this was to create unique visions for each of the factions. This gives each group an identity and a goal to work towards, which in return helps to make the reasons that each group is fighting more relevant.
In a recent discussion with the developers we learned more about the world that the studio has crafted with The Division 2, including why they chose to set the story in Washington D.C.
When asked about the setting, the developer stated, “It’s this idea of upping the stakes. The post office in New York was a beautiful building, but it wasn’t necessarily extremely meaningful for the nation.”
He continued, “here, when we started exploring Washington D.C. as a place where the game would take place, we thought of a base of operations and the only thing that made sense was just like, it has to be the Whitehouse. It has to be that symbol of power. It has to become that symbol, that beacon of hope.”
Based on everything we’ve seen, Ubisoft’s plans to up the stakes and really make the world more believable have paid off. Of course, we’re still a few weeks from the game’s official release on March 15. Once it releases, though, and players have a chance to fully explore the world that Ubisoft has crafted here, we’re sure that we’ll be able to see how the different factions and the setting itself connect with the story.
