Today, Academy Award-nominated director Neill Blomkamp debuted his live-action trailer Conviction. The short brings BioWare's Anthem to life, showing viewers the game's world decades before players step into their own Javelin exo-suits.
“I was really blown away by this incredible world BioWare created the very first time I saw Anthem,” Neill Blomkamp said previously. “Conviction sets the stage with a narrative that touches on Anthem’s beautiful and immersive world, which is ripe for exploration by these powerful Javelins. A world where danger is lurking on every ledge and in each valley.”
Neill Blomkamp is a film director known for District 9, Elysium, and Chappie. Considering the sci-fi settings and themes of those films along with the work he's done with his production company Oats Studio, the marriage of Blomkamp and BioWare seems like a perfect fit. Revealed in the official Anthem blog post about Conviction, the partnership between Neill Blomkamp and BioWare started with a tweet. The E3 reveal of the game and excitement shown from Blomkamp turned into this collaboration.
After you get the visual introduction to the game world, get an aural presentation with the exclusive Shacknews reveal of "The Monitor", a song from the game's official soundtrack. The song and the full original score is composed by Sarah Schachner, who has worked on Assassin's Creed: Origins, Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare, and HBO's Game of Thrones.
In right under four minutes, Conviction gives us a glimpse into various sides of the conflicts that will play out in BioWare's upcoming online co-operative shooter Anthem. BioWare is stepping into a new gameplay genre, but has established itself as a sci-fi narrative powerhouse with the Mass Effect and Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic series.
