As it goes with many new video game releases, portable gaming enthusiasts are wondering if Crackdown 3 will release for the Nintendo Switch. After all, what could be more fun than destroying a virtual world while taking a lengthy tour around the real one? Unfortunately, gamers haven't heard any word on whether or not Crackdown 3 will launch on the Nintendo Switch, and as it just so happens, there's very good reason for that.
There are currently no known plans to release Crackdown 3 for the Nintendo Switch. The latest game in the Crackdown series has been developed by Sumo Digital and published by Xbox Game Studios, effectively cementing its status as exclusive to Microsoft-powered gaming platforms — the Xbox One, Xbox One X, and Windows-powered PCs specifically. As such, it's very unlikely to see Crackdown 3 release for any other systems, and that includes the Switch as well as the Sony PlayStation 4.
This information will likely come as no surprise to series followers. Past Crackdown games, including both Crackdown and Crackdown 2, were similarly published by Microsoft Game Studios and were released as Xbox 360 exclusives. The latest title Crackdown 3 goes a step beyond by releasing for Windows PCs in addition to the Xbox One. However, for all intents and purposes, the game is still very much a Microsoft exclusive.
It's a secret to everyone: Crackdown 3 will almost certainly never release for the Nintendo Switch. We'd love to imagine a world where the platform barriers that divide electronic entertainment could be torn asunder, but for the foreseeable future, platform exclusives are likely to remain. At the very least players can choose to play Crackdown 3 on the either the Xbox One or a PC.
