HTC's Viveport subscription service is one of the best values in virtual reality and it continues to get stronger. Today, the company revealed that the subscription now features over 600 VR titles with the addition of Angry Birds VR: Isle of Pigs. The service has come an incredibly long way, having started out with only 50 titles two years ago.
Angry Birds VR: Isle of Pigs, as stated in the HTC blog post, is a part of a trend where games appear on the Viveport subscription the same day that they launch. 64% of the titles on the Viveport sub have launched this way and 300 games launched in 2018. If you're interested in giving the latest Viveport subscription game a shot, here's a breakdown of what to expect:
"Initially launching with more than 50 levels of gameplay, fans of the incredibly popular franchise travel around a remote island where the infamous green pigs often vacation. Players bombard the island’s exotic beaches, steep cliffs, snowy slopes and party city to take on the green pigs, destroy their structures and retrieve the stolen eggs. The levels can be approached from different angles for the best accuracy, while players leverage classic gameplay elements to progress or strive for three stars on all rounds."
On April 5, 2019, which is officially Vive Day, Viveport will evolve into Viveport Infinity. Current subscribers only get five choices each month and Infinity will open up unrestricted access to the platforms deep library of VR experiences and games.
The install base for virtual reality is still in an important state of growth and Viveport can now be used on HTC Vive and Oculus Rift, so the impact of Viveport Infinity will be heavily monitored to see how it affects developers on the virtual reality platforms. The benefit for consumers is unmistakable, but there needs to be a balance so that developers receive enough funding to continue working on current and future VR projects.
Viveport works for HTC Vive and, since August 2018, Oculus Rift. There's a wealth of content on the virtual reality gaming platform, so start digging into the archives. Stay tuned to Shacknews for additional gaming and tech updates.
