Twitch has been channeling its competitive juices with its Twitch Rivals series, challenging the most skilled players across a variety of games. These showcases have varied from esports to speedrunning, featuring some of the top games in the world. But this next edition of Twitch Rivals is going to be a little special in the sense that it's going to spotlight a game that's been out for less than a week.
On Wednesday, Twitch announced that the next Twitch Rivals competition would focus on newly-released free-to-play battle royale game Apex Legends. Held in conjunction with developer Respawn Entertainment, the Twitch Rivals Apex Legends Challenge will challenge 48 top Twitch streamers to battle out for a $200,000 prize pool. That's 16 squads of three players, battling over who can earn the most points in a four-hour time window. Five points are awarded for each match victory, while one point is awarded for every kill.
Twitch doesn't have a full list of competitors up just yet. However, there are a few key names already set to participate. Those competitors range from the pro esports players (shroud, Myth) to the variety streamers (DrDisrespect, DisguisedToast). The full event page will include the full list of participants in the near future.
The Twitch Rivals Apex Legends Challenge will take place on February 12 and 19 at 9AM PT. Interested spectators can follow each individual player on their respective Twitch streams. They can also follow the studio show, with a panel of hosts from Twitch, on the Twitch Rivals channel. For those who are interested in getting into Apex Legends for themselves, it is indeed free to play right now on PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.
