id on UT & Mod Comparisons
- I just love our "fans" sometimes. Slam us because you think we should have had everything in Q3A that was in UT, then slam us again when our team product comes out because you think it's too much like UT (which it's not ...).
- the UT argument has been bouncing around here since we released the TA Demo. I guess I'm just not allowed to express my frustration, huh? Members of a mod community, that as a whole seems particularly tolerant of things like making mods based on unlicensed intellectual property (models, game features, and mods based on popular cartoons, movies, comic books, etc.) shouldn't be so damn intolerant about someone in the commercial side of the community being inspired by their work.
- Using the same logic, every FPS out there is a rip off of Wolfenstein which is just not the case because at some point it would have been done. Similar ideas are a part of life. id, as a company and John as an individual has been incredibly generous towards the community with things like pioneering actually giving the game source out publicly so mods could be made, providing tools, information and pretty much laying the foundation and methods which other companies follow in this genre ( and others as well ). Considering these are the things that make modifications possible in id games as well as other games, I would think people would appreciate the ability to do so instead of whining about it so much.
