If you’ve spent any amount of time in battle royale games like Fortnite, then you’ve probably grown quite accustomed to the world of third person shooters. With Apex Legends launching as a free-to-play title on the PC, Xbox One and PlayStation 4, many players are curious if the first-person shooter set in the Titanfall universe will ever see a third-person point of view. Here’s what you need to know.
Perspective can change how a game plays completely. We talked about this a little in our latest Shackchat, and many have been curious whether Apex Legends will include some kind of third-person option. The unfortunate answer here—or fortunate depending on how you look at things—is no, there are currently no plans to include any kind of third-person perspectives in Apex Legends. For now, the game will act solely as a first-person shooter, like the previous titles that Respawn has worked on in the past few years.
If you haven’t followed any of the information surrounding Apex Legends, then there’s quite a bit to catch up on. The game itself is set in the Titanfall universe, 30 years after the events of Titanfall 2. Unlike the previous games set in the Titanfall world, Apex Legends will not feature any kind of mechs, or the iconic wall-running that has become such a staple in the shooter series. Instead, it will focus around more foot-based combat across a large map.
Apex Legends is available for free on Origin, Xbox One and PlayStation 4 right now, and you can learn how to download the game right now. Unlike other battle royale games out there, Apex Legends features a specific set of champions, fusing the idea of a hero shooter with a battle royale experience. It’s a nice little trend that gives some room for some unique opportunities for the developers to work with. Another difference between Apex Legends and other battle royale games is the squad-based nature of the experience. Instead of offering a solo mode, the game forces players to work with a group to achieve victory.
