Respawn Entertainment, the studio behind the Titanfall series, dropped a bombshell on the industry last week when it leaked that a new battle royale experience from the studio was in development. Set in the Titanfall universe, Apex Legends got a full reveal today during a Twitch live stream. First and foremost, Apex Legends is available to play right now on PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
Apex Legends, thus far, looks like a blend of Quake Champions, Overwatch, and Call of Duty: Black Ops 4's Blackout, but with a handful of its own unique elements. One of those is the focus on squads of three with characters, called Legends, that have unique abilities. Players can also redeploy into other areas of the map after dropping into the match and there's a respawn element as well.
The battle royale genre is incredibly popular these days and major franchises are incorporating the game mode into their experiences, one way or another. Call of Duty was one of the first existing series of shooters to deliver on this, breaking new CoD ground with Blackout in Black Ops 4. DICE will be doing the same with the Firestorm battle royale mode when it comes arrives in Battlefield 5 in March.
Apex Legends from Respawn Entertainment is available for free right now on PC, Xbox One, and PS4. Stay tuned to Shacknews for additional updates.
