The Jotunn Exotic Fusion Rifle is currently performing well in both Crucible and PVE content, making it a valuable tool in any player’s arsenal. Actually unlocking the Jotunn could prove to be a problem for some players, as it will likely come down to luck. However, there are a few ways to improve your chances of getting Jotunn in Destiny 2.
Much like the Le Monarque Exotic Bow, Jotunn is a drop exclusive to the Black Armory forges. There are no Exotic quests that reward Jotunn and it will not drop randomly from an Exotic Engram or be sold by Xur. While Le Monarque can be earned from any of the four forges, Jotunn is only available through Bergusia, the final forge.
What’s more, Jotunn only has a chance to drop when forging a golden weapon frame. These golden weapon frames are the Powerful weapon frames sold by Ada-1 each week. Players will only be able to forge two of these Powerful weapon frames with each one thereafter being silver. Because only two Powerful frames can be forged each week per character, a player with three characters has six chances at earning Jotunn.
The process will look something like this: pick a Powerful frame and get it to the point where igniting a forge is required to complete it. Head to the Bergusia forge (even if the frame says another forge) and ignite the forge. Once the third-wave boss dies, the Powerful weapon frame will become a weapon, it’s at this point that Jotunn has a chance to drop.
Because Jotunn only drops when forging a Powerful frame, it’s in the player’s best interest to forge as many Powerful frames as possible each week. A player with three characters is obviously going to have a better time of farming for Jotunn compared to someone with only a single character.
Though it’s not confirmed, it doesn’t hurt to destroy the drones to get the Maximum Temper buff. It will help those who haven’t finished the Mysterious Box quest and it could help with acquiring Jotunn.
Jotunn’s main appeal comes from its Intrinsic perk, Charge Shot. Hold fire to charge up a tracking shot that explodes and burns on impact. The tracking of this projectile is only slightly aggressive, nowhere near as devastating as Truth from Destiny. Players who have an ounce of warning will be able to easily side step the bolt before it hits them. However, if a shot from Jotunn does connect, the impact damage and following burn is enough to kill a player in one shot.
This might seem excessive but players will only spawn with two shots for Jotunn in Crucible. This makes it about as viable as any other secondary, though being an Exotic it needs to have some benefit in order to compete with the other extremely popular options (looking at you Ace of Spades).
Jotunn’s Trait perk is Shield Disorient, making it extremely useful in PVE content. Energy matched shield explosion disorients nearby combatants. Jotunn is a Solar weapon, so any enemy with a Solar shield will be disoriented when hit by the projectile. This means Taken Knights and Captains, Hive Wizards, and some Cabal units will be easy to dispatch once hit with Jotunn.
Getting Jotunn is easy enough, provided you have some luck on your side. The best way to improve your chances of getting Jotunn through Powerful frame completions is to simply make more characters. For more information on completing your Exotic collection, check out the Shacknews Destiny 2 guide!
