Another domino has fallen when it comes to the battle for a larger slice of the digital PC gaming pie. Epic Games and Deep Silver revealed today that the digital PC version of Metro Exodus will release February 15, 2019, exclusively on the Epic Games store. There's a standard edition of the game for $49.99 and Gold edition for $74.99. Gold includes the Metro Exodus Expansion Pass and the content for that pass is still to-be-determined.
“We are delighted to partner with Epic to bring the digital PC version of Metro Exodus to market,” said Dr. Klemens Kundratitz, CEO at Deep Silver, in the press release for the announcement. “Epic’s generous revenue terms are a game changer that will allow publishers to invest more into content creation, or pass on savings to the players. By teaming up with Epic we will be able to invest more into the future of Metro and our ongoing partnership with series developer 4A Games, to the benefit of our Metro fans.”
Epic Games has rolled out a handful of exclusives for the storefront since it launched late in 2018, but this may be one of the most high-profile partnerships to date. 4A Games has built a dedicated community with the Metro series and Metro Exodus has the potential to introduce the world to a new audience. Those that have already preordered Metro Exodus through any digital retailer will receive their copy of the game as expected and won't have to run it via the Epic Games Store.
Just last week, 4A Games and Deep Silver published the second episode of The Making of Metro Exodus. In this episode, the team discusses the game's proprietary 4A engine and the incredible attention to detail in the game's weapon crafting system. The third episode will be released in February.
