In case you haven't had enough Resident Evil news, Deadline Hollywood is reporting that a Netflix series is currently in the works.
The report goes into detail about the scripted series that Netflix is looking to launch as a global original. Fans of the Resident Evil motion pictures will be happy to hear that the studio behind those movies, Constantin Film, will be the studio working on the action horror show. These movies are based on the Resident Evil series of video games, but have found their own take on the vast lore that Capcom created over twenty years.
The series is expected to look at the Umbrella Corporation and hopes to expand on Resident Evil's past storylines. Deadline also mentions that even though the series is in early development, the writers plan on awesome action scenes and "easter eggs."
Capcom had a great year in 2018, with the release of Monster Hunter World, and they continue to carry momentum into 2019 with the release of the Resident Evil 2 remake. Shacknews Senior Editor Brittany Vincent reviewed the game, in case you missed her glowing impressions.
Now seems like the right time for Hollywood to capitalize on the popularity of the Resident Evil franchise. Resident Evil 7 and Resident Evil 2 are some of the best games to be released in recent years, and the six movie franchise has earned $1.2 billion across the world. There are rumors that the folks at Constantin Film are even discussing a potential reboot of the movie series.
Reboots. Remakes. It's basically Resident Evil Mania, Shacknews. We welcome it, and look forward to hearing more information about this new Netflix series.
