Looking to test your skills in games like Splatoon 2 and Super Smash Bros. Ultimate? Nintendo is making it easy for you to flex on your opponents by introducing two upcoming tournaments.
Starting in February, Nintendo is hosting two online qualifying events for the Splatoon 2 North America Inkling Open 2019 and the Super Smash Bros. Ultimate North America Open 2019 that players can jump into and compete. These two tournaments will eventually culminate in a final event at PAX East in Boston on March 30. There are several ways for people to play, and players with all levels of experience can participate.
“This inclusive pair of tournaments is a great way for anyone to show off their skills while playing two of their favorite Nintendo Switch games,” said Doug Bowser, Nintendo of America’s Senior Vice President of Sales and Marketing. “Nintendo games are for everyone, and offer a unique combination of social competitive fun. That’s why we’re opening the qualifying rounds to fans of all skill levels.”
You can check out each event's schedule below.
The entirety of the finals for each online event will be streamed online so you can watch, which is still totally an option. If you're looking to entering compete, however, you'll want to check out the official event page from Nintendo to see how you can register for one of the qualifiers through Battlefy. It's open to players 13 and older in the U.S. and Canada and 18 and older in Mexico.
Both Splatoon 2 and Super Smash Bros. Ultimate are available on the Nintendo Switch now, so you've got a little time to download and play the games to get some practice in before signing up. This is a great chance to to show your skills, even if you're not typically a tournament-goer or someone who spends a lot of time competing in special events like these. It looks like the perfect opportunity for a shakeup, in fact, for newcomers to sweep.
