While the high-profile TV and appliance debuts often dominate coverage from the CES showfloor each year, the entire tech world invades Las Vegas for a chance to show off any new products related to technology. One such area is the world of sex toys. CES is host to a variety of such gadgets, including full-scale sex robots and the latests advancements in teledildonics. Oregon-based startup Lora Dicarlo was set to show off their new Osé robotic massager before show organizers made the decision to block its exhibition.
We spoke to Lora Haddock, Founder and CEO of Lora Dicarlo, and Lola Vars, the company’s Technical Director, about the controversy surrounding their flagship product, as well as the continuing double standards that are stifling innovation in products made for and made by women. After being invited to exhibit at CES, the team was informed that their floor application had been denied without cause.
The idea behind the Osé was first thought up by Haddock, who explains that she experienced her first blended orgasm at age 28. After failing to find a device that could induce this response, Haddock began collecting data and formulating designs for a new product. The team at Lora Dicarlo used their combined experience in the fields of robotics, mechanical engineering, and health to build the world’s first smart sex toy capable of offering blended orgams and fitting comfortably across a wide range of body sizes and shapes.
Lora Dicarlo is an Oregon-based start up that has goals to revolutionize the world of sexual aids and education for females and the LGBTQI communities. It received more than 1.8 billion dollars worth of grants in 2018 and is officially partnered with the Oregon State University College of Engineering.
