Galactic Civilizations III is getting a new expansion in the form of Retribution, Stardock announced today.
Retribution finds your civilization uncovering a powerful set of artifacts that are meant to help Galactic Civilizations III players build hyper gates, encounter new major civilizations, and a whole smattering of other stuff.
In the context of the game, ancient alien artifacts are popping up all over the galaxy, which are granting civilizations a ton of new abilities. They're working to balance their own economics while working through diplomacy and funding their military, all the while dabbling in Hypergate technology. Hypergates allow for lickety-split travel across the ends of the galaxy, so it's obviously important stuff.
You'll find all of this and more in the new expansion, which you can learn more about at the official Galactic Civilizations III homepage. The expansion is set to debut this winter for $19.99, and it's currently available to add to your Steam wishlist now. It'll be right there waiting for you when the game makes its ful debut.
For the uninitiated, Galactic Civilizations III is a 4X turn-based strategy game that follows 2006's Galactic Civilizations II: Dread Lords. It follows the game's narrative 10 years after the war against the Dread Lords. Those who rallied together to fight against the Dread Lord have been subjugated or fully exterminated, with Earth spending time in isolation. In 2242, we find the Terran First Fleet returning from a pocket universe to free Earth from its isolation, which is what the game's first three missions detail. It's a challenging title with plenty to offer genre fans, especially if they're looking for something a little out of the ordinary.
