(Editor's Note: The initial story indicated that the donation did not include Yetee proceeds, sponsor donations, Twitch Bits, and channel subscriptions. The final total does, in fact, reflect this and the story has been updated.)
Awesome Games Done Quick has concluded seven days of speedrunning for charity. And the organization has done quite well, surpassing last year's record total and going even farther. As of the time of the event's finale, AGDQ 2019 has raised over $2.39 million for the Prevent Cancer Foundation. The final donation total is still pending, but sat at $2,395,553 at the time AGDQ went off the air. This includes T-shirt sale proceeds from The Yetee, sponsor donations, Twitch Bits, or proceeds from Twitch channel subscriptions, which includes Twitch Prime subscriptions.
This year's Awesome Games Done Quick ran the gamut from classic games, to modern games, to fan-created ROMhacks. This included traditional speedruns, as well as runs with unique conditions, such as Saturday's low-percentage, one-hit KO run for The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past.
AGDQ surpassed the $2 million mark this year in memorable fashion. As the penultimate Super Mario Odyssey "Darker Side" run was reaching its final minutes and passing the three-hour mark, Twitch chat was prompted to begin a $5 donation train. The donation train went farther than anyone expected, taking the total from $1.86M and pushing well past the $2M barrier with the Super Metroid "Reverse Boss Order" run still left to go.
As Awesome Games Done Quick says farewell, the organization prepares for the summer. Summer Games Done Quick is set to run from June 23-30 from its traditional home Bloomington, MN. Meanwhile, the 2020 edition of Awesome Games Done Quick will switch locations for the second straight year. The tenth anniversary of AGDQ will take place in Orlando, FL, with more details coming at the conclusion of this year's SGDQ.
