Alien: Blackout is real, and it's the next installment in the survival horror series surrounding the Alien franchise.
It's a mobile title for iOS and Android developed by Rival Games and Theory Interactive that picks up survivor Amanda Ripley's thread once more. The story continues between Alien and Aliens, and players take on the role of Amanda, who's trapped aboard a Weyland-Yutani space station with, you guessed it, another xenomorph.
Each of Alien: Blackout's levels will find Amanda switching up the space station's emergency systems to guide the crew to safety while avoiding the alien, wherever it may pop up next. It's an unpredictable thriller in the vein of Alien: Isolation since you never know when you're going to be dealing with the alien itself. As such, you'll often have to make difficult decisions regarding the crew and yourself to make progress.
Alien: Blackout is coming to iOS and Android devices later this month, and will also be available on the Amazon App Store at launch as well. There's no concrete date as far as when you can expect it just yet, but given that we're on our way to the halfway mark here soon, that's not too long to wait for the Alien faithful among us. It's hard to tell right now what kind of game it truly is, but at least we know it's real now.
The Alien universe isn't going to be as quiet as it once was, either, as FoxNext Games' studio Cold Iron Studios is working on a massively multiplayer online shooter set in the Alien universe on consoles and PC. There isn't any additional information as to what this new shooter might be like or even when it might be touching down for a debut, but hopefully we'll know more about it to share soon.
